MCP Explained: The Protocol Powering AI Integrations
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that enables AI clients to connect with external services and tools. Think of it as a universal adapter between AI models and the real world.
Before MCP, every AI integration required custom API code, bespoke authentication flows, and tool-specific configurations. MCP standardizes all of this into a single protocol.
How MCP Works
The protocol follows a simple client-server architecture:
- MCP Client: Your AI application (Claude, Claude Code, Codex, etc.)
- MCP Server: The service providing tools (like Convika)
- Tools: Individual capabilities the server exposes (create page, publish, get analytics, etc.)
When you connect an MCP client to an MCP server:
- The server advertises its available tools with descriptions
- The AI client discovers and understands what it can do
- The user asks the AI to perform tasks in natural language
- The AI selects the appropriate tools and executes them
Why MCP Matters
For Users
- One protocol, many services: Connect your AI to any MCP-compatible service the same way
- Natural language interface: No need to learn new UIs or CLIs — just talk to your AI
- Workflow integration: Stay in your existing AI client instead of switching between tools
For Developers
- Standard implementation: Build one MCP server, and it works with every MCP client
- Rich tool descriptions: AI clients understand your tools through detailed descriptions
- OAuth 2.1 authentication: Secure, standards-based auth out of the box
MCP and Convika
Convika is built MCP-first. Every feature — from creating pages to checking analytics — is exposed as an MCP tool. This means:
- You can create a landing page by asking Claude: "Create a landing page for my product"
- You can publish by saying: "Publish my page to production"
- You can check performance: "How many visitors did my page get this week?"
No dashboard clicks, no drag-and-drop, no manual deployments. Just natural language.
Getting Started
To connect to Convika via MCP, add the server URL to your AI client:
https://mcp.convika.com
The first time you connect, you'll be asked to authorize access via OAuth. After that, your AI client has full access to Convika's tools.
Learn more about setting up your client in our Getting Started guide.
