Cloudflare Workers free plan in 2026: limits, and what happens past them

Quick answer

Cloudflare's Workers Free plan has “a daily request limit of 100,000 requests, resetting at midnight UTC,” and 10 ms of CPU time per request, per its limits doc updated October 29, 2026. Past it, “Cloudflare returns Error 1027.” “Requests to static assets are free and unlimited.” Workers Paid starts at $5 a month.

On this page

Cloudflare's Workers Free plan has “a daily request limit of 100,000 requests, resetting at midnight UTC,” and gives each request 10 ms of CPU time, per Cloudflare's Workers limits doc, last updated October 29, 2026. Past the daily limit, “When a Worker exceeds this limit, Cloudflare returns Error 1027,” unless the Worker's route is set to fail open, which “Bypasses the Worker.” Static files don't count toward the limit: “Requests to static assets are free and unlimited,” per the static assets billing doc, last updated November 3, 2026.

The first paid step is Cloudflare's Workers Paid plan. The Workers pricing doc, last updated October 2, 2026, puts it at “a minimum charge of $5 USD per month for an account,” with 10 million requests and 30 million CPU milliseconds a month included, no daily request limit, and “no additional charges for data transfer (egress) or throughput (bandwidth).”

Cloudflare's docs and terms were read on November 4, 2026, from 02:32 to 02:38 JST (17:32 to 17:38 UTC on November 3). Each one's own date is in the Sources at the end of this page. The static assets billing doc changed on November 3, 2026, and still says static requests are free and unlimited. Limits change, so check them before you launch.

This page covers the numbers of the Workers Free plan. Cloudflare Pages vs Workers compares the two products for a site and covers the move, and Cloudflare Pages limits lists Pages' own limits.

The short answer

  • Requests: Cloudflare's Workers Free plan allows 100,000 requests a day for the whole account, reset at midnight UTC. Requests to static files don't count.
  • CPU time: 10 ms per request on Workers Free. Time spent waiting on fetch(), KV, or a database doesn't count.
  • Past the limit: Cloudflare returns Error 1027 until midnight UTC, or, on a route set to fail open, requests skip the Worker.
  • Storage and AI: Workers KV, D1, Durable Objects, and Workers AI each have a free allowance; Workers AI gives 10,000 Neurons a day. R2 has its own free tier on either plan, after you add an R2 subscription.
  • The first paid step: Cloudflare's Workers Paid plan costs at least $5 a month for the account, with 10 million requests a month included and no daily limit.

BandwidthCloudflare doesn't say: the limits doc names no bandwidth limit, and response body size has “No enforced limit”“no additional charges for data transfer (egress) or throughput (bandwidth)” (pricing)

10 ms is less tight than it sounds for most code. Cloudflare's limits doc says “Waiting on network requests (such as fetch() calls, KV reads, or database queries) does not count toward CPU time,” and “The average Worker uses approximately 2.2 ms per request.” Each isolate also has “some built-in flexibility” for a Worker that “infrequently runs over the configured limit.” From December 1, 2026, Cloudflare's pricing doc says, Workers Logs moves to Cloudflare Observability pricing.

Case by case: what Workers Free covers

The table applies Cloudflare's docs and terms to the jobs people bring to the Workers Free plan. Yes means the free limits and Cloudflare's terms allow it, No means a limit or a rule stops it, and “Cloudflare doesn't say” means a rule may reach it and Cloudflare doesn't name the case.

What happens past 100,000 requests a day

Cloudflare's limits doc: “Accounts on the Workers Free plan have a daily request limit of 100,000 requests, resetting at midnight UTC. When a Worker exceeds this limit, Cloudflare returns Error 1027.” The count is for the account, and Pages Functions draw on the same 100,000 a day.

What a visitor gets depends on the route's fail mode, which you set by toggling the route:

  • Fail open: “Bypasses the Worker. Requests behave as if no Worker is configured.”
  • Fail closed: “Returns a Cloudflare 1027 error page.” Cloudflare suggests it for security-critical Workers.

Static files keep serving, since they never count. The exception is a path you send to the script first with run_worker_first. On the free plan, the static assets billing doc says, “If you exceed your free tier request limits, these requests will receive a 429 (Too Many Requests) response instead of falling back to static asset serving.”

CPU time is counted per request, and memory per isolate, which “can handle many concurrent requests.” Past 10 ms of CPU or 128 MB of memory, Cloudflare returns Error 1102, “Worker exceeded resource limits.” The KV and Workers AI allowances are daily too, reset at 00:00 UTC, and past either one, Cloudflare's docs say, further operations “will fail with an error.” D1's daily limits work the same way: “D1 API will return errors to your client indicating that your daily limits have been exceeded.”

Cloudflare's Workers Paid plan removes the daily limit: “No limit” on requests, with 10 million a month included.

Static assets on Workers: free and unlimited

A Worker can serve a folder of files with no code at all. Cloudflare's static assets doc, last updated October 12, 2026: “By default, if a requested URL matches a file in the static assets directory, that file will be served — without invoking Worker code.” The billing doc adds “There is no additional cost for storing Assets.”

  • Files: 20,000 per Worker version on Free and 100,000 on Paid, each up to 25 MiB.
  • Headers and redirects: a _headers file takes up to 100 rules, and _redirects up to 2,000 static and 100 dynamic redirects.
  • Video and range requests: The billing doc, as updated on November 3, 2026, says “When a request for a static asset includes a Range header, Workers returns 200 OK with the full file instead of 206 Partial Content.” Cloudflare notes that “Some clients need range support, for example Safari when it plays video.” Serving byte ranges takes a route through the Worker, and those requests count.
  • Workers Caching: With it on, Cloudflare's pricing doc says, “requests served from the Worker's cache are billed at the same per-request rate as requests that invoke the Worker. This includes requests to static assets.”

Cloudflare now points new sites to Workers: its Pages overview, last updated August 25, 2026, says “Start new projects with Workers.” Cloudflare Pages vs Workers compares the two and lists the migration steps.

KV, D1, R2, and Durable Objects on the free plan

The Workers pricing doc (October 2, 2026) gives KV, D1, and Durable Objects a free allowance on Workers Free. The daily ones reset at 00:00 UTC. R2's figures are from R2's own pricing doc (October 30, 2026).

ProductWorkers FreeWorkers Paid
Workers KV100,000 key reads and 1,000 writes, deletes, and list requests a day; 1 GB stored10 million reads and 1 million writes a month, then $0.50 and $5.00 per million; 1 GB, then $0.50 per GB-month
D15 million rows read and 100,000 rows written a day; 5 GB in total; 10 databases25 billion rows read and 50 million written a month, then $0.001 and $1.00 per million; 5 GB, then $0.75 per GB-month
R210 GB-month of Standard storage, 1 million Class A and 10 million Class B operations a month; egress freeThe same free tier, then $0.015 per GB-month, Class A $4.50 and Class B $0.36 per million; egress free
Durable ObjectsSQLite-backed only; 100,000 requests and 13,000 GB-s a day1 million requests a month, then $0.15 per million; 400,000 GB-s, then $12.50 per million GB-s

For Workers KV, the pricing doc says “If you exceed any one of these limits, further operations of that type will fail with an error.” Durable Objects on the free plan use only the SQLite storage backend.

R2 is the one that needs a step first, on either plan: “You need a Cloudflare account with an R2 subscription,” and you add it when you “Complete the checkout flow,” per R2's get started doc (April 21, 2026). The R2 pricing doc lists its free tier with no Workers plan attached, “the following amount of storage and operations each month for free,” and takes it off the usage first in each Standard storage example. “The free tier only applies to Standard storage.”

Workers AI on the free plan: 10,000 Neurons a day

Cloudflare's Workers AI pricing, last updated October 20, 2026: “Our free allocation allows anyone to use a total of 10,000 Neurons per day at no charge. To use more than 10,000 Neurons per day, you need to sign up for the Workers Paid plan.” On Workers Paid, usage past the same 10,000 a day costs $0.011 per 1,000 Neurons.

A Neuron is Cloudflare's unit for “the GPU compute needed to perform your request,” and each model has its own rate. One example from the price list: @cf/meta/llama-3.1-8b-instruct-fp8-fast uses 4,119 Neurons per million input tokens and 34,868 per million output tokens, so 10,000 Neurons a day cover about 287,000 output tokens of it, before any input.

2 more limits on Workers AI:

  • Paid models: “Some models require a paid billing method,” among them @cf/moonshotai/kimi-k2.6 and @cf/zai-org/glm-5.3. They need Workers Paid or prepaid AI Gateway credits.
  • Rate limits: Text generation allows “300 requests per minute, unless the model requires the Workers Paid plan,” per the Workers AI limits (September 17, 2026).

workers.dev or a custom domain

Every Worker gets an address of the form <YOUR_WORKER_NAME>.<YOUR_SUBDOMAIN>.workers.dev. Cloudflare's workers.dev doc, last updated September 22, 2026, advises against it for production: “It's recommended to run production Workers on a Workers route or custom domain, rather than on your workers.dev subdomain. Your workers.dev subdomain is treated as a Free website and is intended for personal or hobby projects that aren't business-critical.”

The Developer Platform terms add that Cloudflare “may change Cloudflare Workers/Pages subdomain names of projects hosted at workers.dev or pages.dev for any or no reason.” Cloudflare will try to give a week's notice, and “this right does not apply to Customer’s custom domains used for Workers/Pages.”

A custom domain on Workers needs “An active Cloudflare zone,” per the custom domains doc (September 29, 2026): your domain's nameservers at Cloudflare. “You cannot create a Custom Domain on a hostname with an existing CNAME DNS record or on a zone you do not own.” A zone takes up to 100 Custom Domains. Cloudflare Pages can take a subdomain whose DNS stays elsewhere, as Cloudflare Pages vs Workers explains.

Commercial use on Workers Free

Cloudflare's Self-Serve Subscription Agreement, last updated September 12, 2025, sets no personal-use limit on free services, but you may not “process or collect personal or business credit card information on any web property that is receiving Free Services.” The Developer Platform terms, last updated September 28, 2026, cover Workers and say “Unlike most Cloudflare products, the Developer Platform can be used to host content.” The workers.dev line above leaves room for doubt, and Cloudflare doesn't say whether it limits use, so put a business site on your own domain. Is Cloudflare Pages free for commercial use? applies the same terms case by case.

What Workers Paid costs

Cloudflare's pricing doc sets Workers Paid at a minimum of $5 USD a month for the account, and lists what it includes:

  • Requests: 10 million a month, then $0.30 per additional million.
  • CPU time: 30 million CPU milliseconds a month, then $0.02 per additional million, up to 5 minutes per request.
  • Static files: still free. Cloudflare's own example: a project with 15 million requests a month, 12 million of them to static files, costs $5.00 in total.
  • A busy API: Cloudflare's example of 15 million requests at 7 ms of CPU each costs $8.00 a month: $5.00, plus $1.50 for requests and $1.50 for CPU time.

“Workers Paid plan is separate from any other Cloudflare plan (Free, Professional, Business) you may have,” so a Pro plan on your domain doesn't include it.

If your site is one HTML page: Convika

Convika hosts landing pages, one HTML page each, with a form that keeps entries and stats on who visited. There are no Workers, request pools, or CPU limits to set up: you upload the page's HTML file, up to 2 MB, or paste its code, and Convika counts page views. Claude, Claude Code, or Codex can also save the page through Convika's MCP server. Free allows up to 30 publishes a day.

Section 7 of Convika's terms allows commercial use on every plan, Free included: a page that sells or advertises a product or service, a startup or waitlist page, or a client's page you build, host, and bill the client for. It bars reselling Convika itself without permission.

Free includes 1 published page, 10,000 page views a month, 50 form entries shown a month with CSV export and an email for each, 90 days of visit stats, and 1 custom subdomain such as www.yourbrand.com, with a small Convika bar. At 10,000 page views in a month, editing and analytics pause, and 7 days later the pages stop until the month ends or you upgrade. Pro monthly costs $12 a month and includes 100,000 page views; it doesn't stop for traffic unless you set a monthly overage limit, and each 10,000 views past the included ones cost $1.30. Pricing lists each plan.

Not a fit for: an API, a server-rendered app, a site built from a folder of files, a build step, or server code. Convika hosts a single HTML document per page. To see your page on Convika first, the free HTML publishing tool gives you a preview link with no account.

Which one to pick

  • A static site or a single-page app with no server code: Cloudflare's Workers Free plan, where requests to static files are free and unlimited.
  • An API or a server-rendered app under 100,000 requests a day: Workers Free, as long as each request stays near 10 ms of CPU.
  • More requests, or heavier code: Cloudflare's Workers Paid plan, from $5 a month for the account, with no daily limit and up to 5 minutes of CPU a request.
  • A site whose DNS stays at another provider: Cloudflare Pages, which takes a subdomain through a CNAME record; a Worker's custom domain needs Cloudflare's nameservers.
  • A business site in production: Your own domain on the Worker, not workers.dev, as Cloudflare recommends.
  • One landing page with a form: Convika Free, with the form and stats included.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cloudflare Workers free?

Yes. Cloudflare's pricing doc says “By default, users have access to the Workers Free plan,” which allows 100,000 requests a day and 10 ms of CPU time per request, and “Requests to static assets are free and unlimited.” KV, D1, Durable Objects, and Workers AI each have a free allowance on it too, and R2 has a free tier once you add an R2 subscription.

What are the Cloudflare Workers free plan limits?

Cloudflare's Workers Free plan allows 100,000 requests a day, reset at midnight UTC; 10 ms of CPU time and 50 subrequests per request; 128 MB of memory; a 64 MiB Worker; 100 Workers and 5 Cron Triggers an account; and 20,000 static files per Worker version, 25 MiB each, per its limits doc updated October 29, 2026.

What happens when a Cloudflare Worker passes 100,000 requests a day?

Cloudflare returns Error 1027 until the count resets at midnight UTC. On a route set to fail open, requests bypass the Worker instead and “behave as if no Worker is configured”; fail closed returns Cloudflare's 1027 error page. Static files keep serving, except paths sent to the script first with run_worker_first, which get a 429 response.

Do static assets count toward the Workers free plan's requests?

No. Cloudflare's static assets billing doc says “Requests to static assets are free and unlimited,” and its pricing doc says “Only requests that hit a Worker will count against your limits and your bill.” Paths you route through the script with run_worker_first do count.

How much does Cloudflare Workers Paid cost?

At least $5 a month. Cloudflare's pricing doc gives Workers Paid “a minimum charge of $5 USD per month for an account,” with 10 million requests and 30 million CPU milliseconds a month included, then $0.30 per million requests and $0.02 per million CPU milliseconds. It has no daily request limit and no charge for bandwidth.

Is Cloudflare Workers AI free?

Yes, up to 10,000 Neurons a day. Cloudflare's Workers AI pricing says “Our free allocation allows anyone to use a total of 10,000 Neurons per day at no charge,” and more needs the Workers Paid plan, at $0.011 per 1,000 Neurons. A few models, such as @cf/moonshotai/kimi-k2.6, “require a paid billing method”: Workers Paid or prepaid AI Gateway credits.

Can I use Cloudflare Workers' free plan for a business?

Yes, under Cloudflare's agreement, which sets no personal-use limit but bars collecting card numbers “on any web property that is receiving Free Services.” Run it on your own domain: Cloudflare says the workers.dev subdomain “is intended for personal or hobby projects that aren't business-critical.”

What is Cloudflare Workers?

Cloudflare's own description: “A serverless platform for building, deploying, and scaling apps across Cloudflare's global network with a single command — no infrastructure to manage, no complex configuration” (Workers overview, October 8, 2026). A Worker can serve static files, run server code on each request, and connect to Cloudflare's storage and Workers AI.

Why is Cloudflare free?

Cloudflare says its free plan lowers its own costs. Its September 27, 2024 post “Reaffirming our commitment to free” says “Counterintuitively: our free service actually helps us keep our costs lower,” because the ISPs that exchange traffic with Cloudflare at no cost value “the breadth of the web that sits behind Cloudflare, a number driven by our Free customers.” It adds that the Free plan “gives Cloudflare access to unique threat intelligence,” and that “Cloudflare always has, and always will, offer a generous free version” of its products, developer tools included.

Does the Cloudflare Workers free plan include a database?

Yes. Cloudflare's pricing doc gives D1 on Workers Free 5 million rows read and 100,000 rows written a day, 5 GB of storage in total, and up to 10 databases, and Workers KV 100,000 reads and 1,000 writes a day with 1 GB stored. Past a daily allowance, further operations fail with an error until 00:00 UTC.
