Can I use Lovable's free plan for a business site, and who owns it?
Quick answer
Yes. Lovable's August 28, 2026 terms allow use “for your personal or internal business purposes” and say “you own your Customer Data, including the applications, websites, or other projects you build.” On Free the site sits on a lovable.app address that Lovable owns; your own domain needs Pro, from $25 a month.
Free plan: no credit card, 1 published page, 1 custom subdomain.
On this page
Yes. Lovable's Terms of Service, last updated August 28, 2026, license its services “for your personal or internal business purposes - including to create, deploy, operate, and make available the applications, websites, and other products you build using the Services,” and Lovable's plan docs set no business-use limit on Free. On ownership, the terms say “As between us, you own your Customer Data, including the applications, websites, or other projects you build using the Services.” What Free doesn't give a business is an address of its own: the site goes live on lovable.app, where “Lovable retains all ownership rights in the lovable.app domain and all subdomains,” and connecting your own domain takes a paid plan, from $25 a month for Lovable Pro.
Lovable's terms and docs were read on October 23, 2026: the Terms of Service (last updated August 28, 2026), the Platform Rules (last updated February 2026), and the FAQ, subscription plans, and publishing and domain docs, which carry no date. This page covers what the terms allow, who owns what, how 3 other builders compare, and where Lovable's Free plan falls short for a business. For credits and what Free includes, see Is Lovable free? Terms change, so check them before you launch.
What Lovable's terms say about business use
- The license. Lovable grants a “limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide, revocable license to access and use the Services, as permitted in your subscription plan, for your personal or internal business purposes.” The same sentence covers making what you build available, and “to permit your end users to access and use those projects.” Lovable's FAQ lists what people build: “SaaS products, internal tools, dashboards, CRMs and client portals, booking and marketplace apps, company websites and landing pages, portfolios.”
- The plan. The license runs “as permitted in your subscription plan.” Lovable's subscription plans list what each plan includes, and none of the rows limits Free to personal or non-commercial use.
- What you may not do. Among the license restrictions: you may not “resell, provide, or make the Services available to any third party on a service bureau or time-sharing basis,” or “use AI Output without appropriate review in high-risk or sensitive contexts (including medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical uses).”
- No sensitive data. Unless your plan or a written agreement allows it, you agree not to provide “protected health information subject to HIPAA, or other special or sensitive categories of data (including financial account numbers, payment card data, government identifiers, or biometric data).” The FAQ applies it to “the apps you build” and says to take payments with Lovable's built-in payments or your own Stripe account “instead of storing card details in your app.”
- The Platform Rules. The Platform Rules, last updated February 2026, bar selling or promoting “regulated services without required licenses or approvals, including gambling, financial services, weapons-related services, or controlled substances,” and “one-to-one copies of existing commercial or known sites” that use known businesses' names and logos.
Who owns a site you build on Lovable
You own the site and its code. Lovable keeps a license to use them, and the address on Free.
- Your projects and the AI's output. The terms say “As between us, you own your Customer Data, including the applications, websites, or other projects you build using the Services. As between us, you also own any AI Output generated for you through the Services, subject to any third-party rights in the underlying models, training data, or outputs.” The FAQ adds: “You can modify them, use them commercially, and host them wherever you choose.”
- Lovable's license to your data. “You grant us a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license to use, copy, modify, process, analyze, and otherwise exploit your Customer Data for our business purposes,” and the purposes listed include “developing and training artificial intelligence and machine learning models.” You can tell Lovable to stop, and it honors that “for prospective use, free of charge and regardless of your plan.” Per the FAQ, since September 9, 2026 Lovable may train on Free and Pro data unless you turn off Use my Lovable content for model training in Account settings → Preferences → AI model training.
- Output others may get too. “AI Output may be similar or identical to content generated for other users who submit similar prompts,” and Lovable doesn't guarantee it is “free of third-party rights.”
- The lovable.app address. “Lovable retains all ownership rights in the lovable.app domain and all subdomains.” Lovable may reclaim a subdomain “at any time and for any reason,” and will “generally” give 7 days' notice. The terms advise: “You should not rely on the permanent availability of any particular subdomain and should use custom domains for mission-critical applications.” Custom domains are on paid plans only.
- Taking the code with you. Git sync to GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket works on every plan, Free included. Downloading the whole project as a
.zipfile is for paid plans, and the database is exported separately, per the FAQ.
Case by case
The table applies Lovable's terms and docs to the sites people ask about. A row reads Yes where the license covers the site and no rule bars it, No where a rule does, and “Lovable doesn't say” where a rule may reach the site and Lovable doesn't name it. Lovable has the final say on your case.
| Site on Lovable's Free plan | What Lovable's terms and docs say | Allowed? |
|---|---|---|
| Company website or landing page | The license covers “internal business purposes,” and the FAQ lists “company websites and landing pages” | Yes |
| SaaS app you charge users for | The license covers permitting “your end users to access and use those projects,” and the FAQ lists “SaaS products” | Yes |
| Taking payments | Your own Stripe account works on Free: the Stripe integration “does not require a paid Lovable plan.” Lovable's built-in payments “require a paid Lovable plan” | Yes, with your own Stripe account |
| Storing card numbers, health records, or ID numbers in your app | The terms bar “payment card data,” “protected health information,” and “government identifiers” unless your plan or a written agreement permits them | No |
| A client's site you build in your own workspace | Not named. The license is for “personal or internal business purposes,” and you may not offer the Services “on a service bureau or time-sharing basis.” A project can be transferred to a workspace member on any plan, and to an outside account on Business and Enterprise | Lovable doesn't say |
| Ads or affiliate links | Not named, and no rule in the terms or the Platform Rules bars them | Yes |
| Gambling, lending, or another regulated service | The Platform Rules bar selling or promoting “regulated services without required licenses or approvals” | No, without the licenses |
| A copy of a known company's site | The Platform Rules: “one-to-one copies of existing commercial or known sites” are “removed from the platform” | No |
Your own domain, such as yourbrand.com | “Custom domains are available on paid plans,” per the custom domain docs | No, Pro or higher |
| Hiding the “Edit with Lovable” badge | The subscription plans list removing the badge on Pro, Business, and Enterprise, not on Free | No, Pro or higher |
What Lovable's Free plan gives a business site
| What a business site needs | Lovable Free | Lovable Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | From $25 a month, or $250 a year (plans) |
| Address | your-project.lovable.app, which Lovable owns (terms) | The same, or your own domain (domain docs) |
| “Edit with Lovable” badge | Shown on the live site | You can hide it (plans) |
| Taking payments | Your own Stripe account (Stripe docs) | Built-in payments too (payments docs) |
| Traffic | Apps created from May 13, 2026: 1,000 server requests per project every 10 seconds (hosting docs) | “Your plan does not cap visitors or bandwidth” (hosting docs) |
| A quiet site | May be unpublished after 12 months with no visits and no owner login, if it has no custom domain (publishing docs) | Not subject to that rule, which is for Free workspaces (publishing docs) |
| Code | Git sync (FAQ) | Git sync, code editing, and a .zip download (plans) |
If you downgrade, a connected domain keeps working. Lovable's domain docs say “Connected domains keep serving your published app,” but you can't connect a new one on Free.
Lovable and 3 other builders on ownership and business use
| Builder and free plan | Who owns what it makes | Business use on the free plan | Your own domain on the free plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lovable Free | You do: “you own your Customer Data” and “any AI Output generated for you” (terms, August 28, 2026) | Yes, “for your personal or internal business purposes” (terms) | No; Pro from $25 a month (plans) |
| Bolt Free | You do, as far as StackBlitz holds rights: it “assigns to you all of its right, title, and interest, if any, in and to the AI Output” (terms, last updated September 22, 2026) | No personal-use limit in its terms; its Acceptable Use Policy bars reselling access to Bolt itself | No; Pro from $18 a month, billed yearly (pricing) |
| v0 Free | Not Vercel: “Vercel doesn't own the code generated based on your queries and prompts” (v0 FAQ) | Apps go live on Vercel, where a Hobby team is “restricted to non-commercial personal use only” (fair use guidelines) | Yes, from your Vercel project (v0 docs) |
| Convika Free | You do: “You retain ownership of all content you create and publish through the Service” (terms, section 6) | Yes. Section 7 of its terms allows commercial use on every plan, Free included, client work too | 1 subdomain, such as www |
All 4 put the review of AI-made output on you. Bolt's terms add that AI output “may not be protectable by copyright,” and v0's FAQ says output “may be the same or similar to other users' output.”
Convika for a Lovable landing page
Convika hosts landing pages, one HTML page each, with a form that keeps entries and stats on who visited. Section 6 of its terms says “You retain ownership of all content you create and publish through the Service,” and gives Convika a license “to host, store, and deliver your User Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service.” Section 7 allows commercial use on every plan, Free included: a page that sells or advertises a product or service, a startup or waitlist page, a portfolio that offers your services for hire, or a client's page you build, host, and bill the client for. It bars reselling Convika itself without permission.
A Lovable project is an app, not one HTML file, so there are 2 ways to bring a landing page over:
- Rebuild it from the lovable.app link. Paste the link into the free rebuild tool and click Rebuild my page. No signup, email, or card is needed. You get a private preview in your page's colors and fonts, with a list of what changed and why. Click Keep this page to move it into a Free account, then Add a form to my page, then Publish.
- Describe it to Convika's AI. Sign up free, click Create with AI, and describe the page, or paste a link to a page it should start from.
Free includes 1 published page, 1 custom subdomain such as www.yourbrand.com, 50 form entries a month with an email for each, and 90 days of visitor stats, with a small “Convika: share your HTML as a link, free” badge. Pro removes the badge and the form cap. Pro costs $12 a month. The page Is Lovable free? walks through each way step by step.
Where Lovable fits better: an app with sign-ins, a database, or several screens. Convika hosts one HTML page per site, the rebuild writes a new page from your page's text, colors, and fonts rather than copying it, and custom domains are subdomains such as www.
Which one to pick
- An app with sign-ins, a database, or payments: Build it on Lovable. Free covers a business app on a lovable.app address. Pick Pro, from $25 a month, once it needs your own domain or no badge.
- A landing or waitlist page on your own domain with no monthly fee: Pick Convika's Free plan, with the form and visitor stats built in.
- A Next.js app you'll run for a business on Vercel: Pick v0 with Vercel Pro, since a Hobby team is for non-commercial use only.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Lovable for commercial use?
Yes. Lovable's terms license its services “for your personal or internal business purposes,” including to deploy and “make available the applications, websites, and other products you build,” and its FAQ says you can “use them commercially.” The rules to watch are the ban on payment card and health data in your app, and the Platform Rules on regulated services and copies of known sites.
Can I use Lovable's free plan for a business?
Yes. Lovable's subscription plans set no business-use limit on Free. What Free lacks for a business is your own domain and a site without the “Edit with Lovable” badge. Both start on Lovable Pro, from $25 a month. Free apps created from May 13, 2026 are also limited to 1,000 server requests per project every 10 seconds.
Do I own the code Lovable generates?
Yes. Lovable's terms say you own your projects and “any AI Output generated for you through the Services, subject to any third-party rights in the underlying models, training data, or outputs.” You can sync the code to GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket on any plan. Lovable keeps a “worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license” to use your Customer Data for its business purposes.
Does Lovable use my projects to train its AI?
Yes, unless you opt out. Lovable's FAQ says that since September 9, 2026 it may train on Free and Pro data, including prompts, code, project files, and generated outputs. Turn off Use my Lovable content for model training in Account settings → Preferences → AI model training. Business and Enterprise workspaces are excluded by default.
Can I take payments in a Lovable app on the free plan?
Yes, with your own Stripe account, which “does not require a paid Lovable plan.” Lovable's built-in payments need Pro or higher. Card numbers can't be stored in the app itself: Lovable's terms bar “payment card data” unless your plan or a written agreement allows it.
Can I build client websites with Lovable?
Yes. Lovable's FAQ points people who want an app built to “verified developers and agencies who build with Lovable.” The terms don't say whether a client's site may stay in your own Free workspace. You can transfer a project to a member of your workspace on any plan, and to an account outside it on Business and Enterprise.
Can I use my own domain on Lovable's free plan?
No. Lovable's docs say “Custom domains are available on paid plans,” starting with Lovable Pro at $25 a month or $250 a year. A domain connected while you paid keeps working after a downgrade, but you can't connect a new one on Free.
Can Lovable take back my lovable.app subdomain?
Yes. Lovable's terms say it may reclaim a lovable.app subdomain “at any time and for any reason,” generally with 7 days' notice, and that “You have no proprietary, possessory, or ongoing rights to any specific subdomain.” Lovable advises custom domains “for mission-critical applications.”
Can I move my Lovable site to another host?
Yes. Lovable's FAQ says you can “host them wherever you choose.” Git sync works on every plan, a .zip download is on paid plans, and the database is exported separately. Older Lovable apps build to static files, and apps created from May 13, 2026 use TanStack Start, which runs server code, so they need a host that runs it.
Is there a free way to put a Lovable landing page on my own domain?
Yes, with Convika's Free plan. Paste your lovable.app link into Convika's free rebuild tool, with no signup, and get a private preview in your page's colors and fonts. Keep it, add a form, and connect 1 custom subdomain, such as www.yourbrand.com. Convika's terms allow commercial use on every plan, Free included, and say you keep ownership of what you publish.
