The family is coming over, the office party is on Friday, or friends are gathering for New Year's Eve, and you want a quiz that takes 20 minutes to make. A chat AI can write the whole thing as one HTML file. Put that file at a link, and every guest plays on their own phone, with no app and no account. This guide gives you formats that fit one file, the instructions to paste, the checks to run before the party, the steps to share it, and what this way can't do.
Already have the quiz file? The upload box at the top of this page makes a preview link without an account. That preview runs no scripts, so the quiz won't respond there. Click Keep this page — free, no card and sign up, and the page moves into your account, where the quiz runs.
Which trivia formats fit one HTML file
A quiz fits one file when the questions and answers are written into the page, and the score is counted on the device that shows it. These 3 formats work:
| Format | Who holds the device | How the score works |
|---|---|---|
| Everyone on their own phone | Each guest opens the link | Each phone shows its own score at the end; guests call out their scores |
| Teams in front of one TV | The host runs the page on a laptop connected to the TV | The host taps the team that answered right, and the page keeps the team scores on that screen |
| True or false speed round | Each guest, on their own phone | A timer per question, then a score on each phone |
For the team version, the class team quiz template holds ready-made instructions: questions shown large, a Show answer step, and a point for the team you tap. It was written for a classroom. Change the topic to your party's theme. How to make an AI quiz game for class covers the same kind of quiz for teachers.
Questions that work, and checking the answers
Pick a theme your guests share: holiday movies, songs of the year, your office's year in review, or family trivia only your relatives know. Keep each question to one line, with 1 right answer and 3 wrong ones.
Check every answer before the party. OpenAI's help page on accuracy says ChatGPT "can produce incorrect or misleading outputs" and "might sound confident—even when it's wrong", including "incorrect definitions, dates, or facts." Any chat AI can make the same mistakes. Look up each answer in a source you trust, or write the questions yourself and ask the AI only to build the page. Family trivia is the safest kind: you already know the answers.
The instructions to give ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini
Paste this into the chat. Change the first 2 lines to your theme and number of questions. Keep the rest: those lines stop the most common problems on a phone.
Make a trivia quiz page about [holiday movies] with [15] questions.
- Each question has 4 choices and 1 right answer. Leave out any question you aren't sure of.
- After each answer, show whether it was right, then a "Next question" button.
- At the end, show the score and a "Play again" button.
- Use big text that can be read on a TV across the room.
- Write it as one HTML file, with the CSS and JavaScript inside.
- Don't use image files. Use emoji if you want pictures.
- Make it work on a phone held upright. Every button is at least 44px tall.
- Keep buttons clear of the bottom 40px of the screen.
- Don't send anything anywhere, and don't ask for names.
Ask for one change at a time after that, such as "make question 7 easier." A short request keeps the rest of the quiz as it was. If you made the quiz in Claude, How to download a Claude artifact as an HTML file shows how to get the file out.
Test it on a phone and a TV
Each chat AI shows a page before you publish it. OpenAI's help says that for supported code blocks you select Preview to view the result inside ChatGPT, and HTML pages are among the supported previews. Your guests can't play it there, so test the published version too.
After you keep the page in your account (step 2 below), open its Preview link on your own phone and play it to the end. The upload box's own link runs no scripts, so test only after you keep the page. Check 3 things:
- Every button responds to a tap. If one doesn't, ask the AI: "Make every button work with touch on a phone."
- The text fits on the screen held upright. If a question runs off the edge, ask for shorter lines or smaller text on phones.
- Nothing sits under the Convika bar. On Free, a 40 px Convika bar runs along the bottom of the screen. If the Next question button hides behind it, ask the AI to keep the bottom 40 px clear.
For the TV, open the page in a laptop's browser and connect the laptop to the TV, then check that the back row can read a question.
Share the quiz as a link or QR code in 4 steps
1. Save the quiz as one HTML file
If the AI gave you a file, download it. If the quiz is in the chat as code, copy all of it, from the first <!DOCTYPE html> to the last </html>. The file can be up to 2 MB.
2. Upload it and keep the page
Drop the file into the upload box at the top of this page, or paste the code. Click Keep this page — free, no card and sign up. The Free plan needs no credit card. The page moves into your account, and its preview runs the quiz's scripts. Play it once on your phone.
3. Publish it
Click Publish. The first time you publish, Convika asks you to Choose how to publish your page. Free is enough for a party. The other two choices are the 1-year Pro pass ($29 once) and Pro monthly, which remove the Convika bar. The quiz goes live at an address like yourpage.convika.page.
On Free, the quiz is published as Public: anyone with the link can play, and the page may show up in search results and in Convika's gallery. To keep it out of both, choose Private link (Pro or pass) when you publish. Anyone with a private link can still play.
4. Send the link or show the QR code
Paste the link into the family group chat or the party invite. In the room, click Show QR code on the page's screen in the dashboard and put the code on the TV, or click Download PNG and print it for each table. Guests scan it and play in their phone's browser, with no app and no account. How to turn an HTML file into a QR code covers the code in more detail.
Ways to run a party quiz, compared
| Way | Guests need an account | Shared winner or leaderboard | Cost to the host | Where your questions live |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A quiz page made by AI, on a Convika link | No | Not built in; each phone shows its own score, and a team version keeps team scores on one TV | Convika Free, plus your chat AI's plan | In an HTML file you keep |
| Mentimeter quiz | No; asking participants to log in is an Enterprise option | Yes; the results of all quiz questions add up to one final winner | Free plan: 50 participants a month, plus unlimited participants once a month | In your Mentimeter account |
| Google Forms quiz | Not stated on Google's quiz help | You see average, median, and range of scores; no leaderboard is described | Not stated on Google's quiz help | In your Google account |
| Slides on the TV and paper answer sheets | No | You add up the sheets by hand | The slide software you already have | In your slides |

How to choose:
- You want a live ranking of everyone in the room: a tool built for it, such as Mentimeter, where the quiz adds up to one winner.
- You want the scores in one list after the party: a Google Forms quiz, where you see each response's score under Responses > Individual, and the average, median, and range.
- You want a quiz guests open from a link in seconds, and a file you keep for next year: an AI-made page on Convika.
What a quiz in a file can't do
- No built-in leaderboard and no live results. A script on a Free Convika page can call only the page's own address, and the quiz this guide asks for keeps each guest's score on their own phone. Pro adds only the analytics tools Convika supports. A page that saves scores with
window.storage's shared values, as Claude artifacts do, keeps one list on Convika that every guest sees, but Convika has no leaderboard feature or guest accounts of its own. The host collects scores out loud, or uses the team version on one screen. - Scores stay on each phone. A score kept in
localStoragestays in that guest's browser. It doesn't move to another phone or another browser. - No accounts and no names for guests. Nobody signs in to play. The dashboard shows how many people opened the page, not who.
- A small bar on Free. Free pages show a 40 px Convika bar at the bottom. Free includes 10,000 page views a month across all your pages, and the dashboard shows visits for the last 90 days. Pricing lists what each plan includes.
Keep it for next year at the same link
After the party, you can change the questions and keep the same link and QR code. Ask the AI for the updated file, open the page's screen in the dashboard, and upload it under New version from a file. You get a private preview of the new version first, and the published page doesn't change until you publish it. The QR code still works after you publish a new version, so a printed code from this year opens next year's quiz.
If you upload the file through Upload an HTML file instead, Convika makes a separate page with its own address.
Frequently asked questions
Can ChatGPT make a trivia quiz?
Yes. ChatGPT can write a trivia quiz as one HTML file, and OpenAI's help lists HTML pages among the code blocks you can preview inside ChatGPT. Ask for the questions, 4 choices each, a score at the end, and big text. Check each answer yourself before the party, because OpenAI's help says ChatGPT can state wrong facts with confidence.
How do I make a quiz people can take on their phones for free?
Ask a chat AI for the quiz as one HTML file, publish the file on a free host, and send the link. On Convika's Free plan you publish 1 page with no credit card. Guests open the link in their phone's browser with no account. Test the quiz on your own phone first, and keep the buttons clear of the Convika bar at the bottom.
Is there a quiz maker with no sign up?
For your guests, yes: a quiz page on a link needs no account to play. For you, almost: Convika's upload box makes a preview link without an account, but that preview runs no scripts, so the quiz won't respond. Publishing a quiz that runs takes a free Convika account with no credit card.
How do I make a Christmas quiz for a party?
Give a chat AI your theme, such as Christmas movies or carols, and the instructions in this guide: 15 questions, 4 choices each, a score at the end, big text, and one HTML file. Check every answer, publish the file, and show its QR code on the TV or print it for each table. Guests scan it and play on their phones.
Can I add a leaderboard?
Not with the quiz this guide asks for. A script on a Free Convika page can call only the page's own address, and that quiz keeps each phone's score on the phone. A page that saves scores with window.storage's shared values, as Claude artifacts do, keeps one list on Convika that every guest sees; Convika has no leaderboard feature or guest accounts of its own. For one screen in front of everyone, use a team version: the host taps the team that answered right, and the page keeps the team scores. For a live ranking of every guest, a tool built for it, such as Mentimeter, fits better.
Are AI-made trivia answers reliable?
Not always. OpenAI's help says ChatGPT can give incorrect dates and facts and can sound confident even when it's wrong. Check every answer against a source you trust, ask the AI to leave out questions it isn't sure of, or write the answers yourself and let the AI build only the page.
