How to publish a Gemini Canvas page as a real website

Short answer

Gemini Canvas shares a page as a public g.co/gemini/share link that opens only on gemini.google.com. A shared app can save entries, but anyone with the link can view and edit them, and Google's help describes no custom domain or visitor stats. To run the page as a website, copy the code from Canvas, upload it in Convika's dashboard, and publish; Convika's Free plan covers 10 pages and 50 form entries a month with no credit card.

Publish my Canvas page free

Free plan: no credit card, 10 pages, 50 form entries a month.

You built a page in Gemini Canvas and the preview looks right. Sharing it gives you a g.co/gemini/share/… link, which opens the page on a Gemini screen rather than at an address you own. This guide covers what Gemini's sharing does, where it stops, and how to put the same page on your own domain with a form that keeps entries and a count of who visited.

What Gemini's Share button gives you

In Canvas, click Share & export at the top right of the panel, then Share, and copy the g.co/gemini/share link. According to Google's Canvas help:

  • Shared links only open in gemini.google.com. The Gemini mobile app can't open them.
  • Anyone who opens the link can make a copy and keep editing it in their own Canvas. For a page about your business, that includes competitors.
  • A shared app can save data, and anyone with the public link can view and edit it. That includes other visitors' entries. Google's Canvas safety help says data an app shares between users is in a public database, and asks you to review the app info before you share.

Google's help doesn't mention custom domains or visitor analytics. That's fine for showing a draft. It's a problem for a page you want to put on a flyer, in an ad, or in a launch post.

Publish your Canvas page with Convika in 6 steps

Copy the code from Canvas

If the page has a form, first ask Gemini: “Replace the form with <div data-convika-form></div>.” That marks the spot where Convika puts a working form later. If Canvas made a React app rather than plain HTML, also ask: “Convert this to a single HTML file with the CSS and JavaScript inline, no build step.” Then click Code at the top right of the Canvas panel and copy the whole file.

Create a free Convika account

Sign up at app.convika.com. The Free plan needs no credit card and covers 10 pages.

Upload the code

In the dashboard, click Upload an HTML file, switch to the Paste code tab, and paste the code. If you saved it as a file instead, use the Upload a file tab; .html and .htm files up to 2 MB work. Click Create my preview. Convika creates a new page, and uploading uses no AI credits.

Check the private preview

When you see “Your preview is ready,” click Open preview. The preview link is private and expires in 7 days. Nothing is public yet. Check it on your phone as well as your computer. If a section is blank or an image is missing, see what won't work outside Gemini below.

Add a form that keeps entries

On the page's dashboard screen, click Add a form to my page, pick the fields (email only; name and email; or name, email, and message), and set the button text. Convika puts a working form in the placeholder spot, or above your page's footer if there's no placeholder, as a new preview version. If you didn't use the placeholder, Gemini's old form is still on the page. Type “Remove the form Gemini made and keep the Convika form” into Improve with AI, which costs 1 AI credit on the default model, so visitors don't fill in a form that goes nowhere. Test entries sent from the preview are checked but not saved.

Publish and connect your domain

Click Publish. The page goes live at an address like yourpage.convika.com. For your own domain, click Manage domains on the page's dashboard screen, then Add domain, and enter a hostname such as www.yourbrand.com. Add the CNAME and TXT records Convika shows at the company where you bought the domain, and the SSL certificate is issued for you. Automatic setup works with subdomains like www, not a bare yourbrand.com.

A day later, open the page's analytics to see visits, traffic sources and UTM tags, devices, countries, button clicks, and form submissions.

What won't work outside Gemini

Scripts in the page run on every plan, including Free. Canvas pages often load Tailwind, Google Fonts, and an icon library from a CDN, and those work too, as do embedded videos and maps and images with full https:// links. These depend on your plan or don't work:

  • Gemini-powered features and saved data. A chatbot, a text or image generator, or entries saved in the app rely on Canvas, which isn't there once the page leaves Gemini. A Convika page also can't fetch data from other websites, apart from the analytics tools below on Pro. Ask Gemini: “Remove the AI features and saved data, and keep the page static.”
  • Analytics and heatmap tools. Google Analytics, Clarity, Hotjar, Plausible, PostHog, and Mixpanel send data only on Pro and above. On Free their requests are blocked. Convika's own visit counts work on Free.
  • Images that aren't online. Any image path that points to a file on your computer shows as broken, and the upload screen lists these files for you. Ask Gemini: “Use a full https:// link for every image, and use these links: …”
  • Libraries that run code written in HTML attributes, such as Alpine.js (x-data, @click). Ask Gemini: “Rewrite the Alpine.js parts in plain JavaScript.”

Other ways to host a Canvas page

  • Netlify Drop. Save the code as index.html and drop it on app.netlify.com/drop to get a URL. Netlify stores form submissions for free once you select Enable form detection under Forms, add data-netlify="true" to the form, and then drop the file again, because detection starts with the next deploy. When the Free plan's 300 monthly credits run out, every site on the account is paused.
  • Convika when you want the domain, the form, and the stats in one place.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put a Gemini Canvas page on a custom domain?

Not from inside Gemini. Shared Canvas content opens only on gemini.google.com. To use your own domain, copy the code and host it somewhere that supports custom domains. On Convika's Free plan you can connect 1 subdomain, such as www.yourbrand.com, with a CNAME and a TXT record.

Can a Gemini Canvas page collect email signups?

Inside Gemini, yes: a Canvas app can save what visitors type. But Google's help says anyone with the public link can view and edit data associated with the app, which includes other visitors' entries. On Convika, Add a form to my page creates a form whose entries appear only in your dashboard, and you can export them as a CSV. The Free plan stores 50 entries a month across your forms.

Will the page update when I change it in Gemini?

No. The page on Convika is a copy. To change the live page, type the change into Improve with AI on the page's dashboard screen, which costs 1 AI credit on the default model; Free accounts start with 10. It saves a new version with a preview, and you publish when it looks right. Uploading the code again creates a separate page with its own address.

What does it cost?

The Free plan needs no card: 10 pages, 10,000 pageviews a month, 50 form entries a month, 1 custom domain, and a small “Powered by Convika” badge at the bottom of each page. Pro costs $12 a month after a 14-day free trial and removes the badge and the form cap.

Move your Canvas page to your own domain

Paste the code once. Convika hosts the page, keeps the form entries, and counts the visits.
