How to put an HTML page from ChatGPT online, free
Short answer
In a regular chat, ChatGPT can write and preview an HTML page but doesn't host it, and ChatGPT Sites, which does host pages, isn't available on the Free or Go plans. On any ChatGPT plan, download the .html file or copy the code, upload it in Convika's dashboard, check the private preview, and publish. Convika's Free plan needs no credit card and includes 10 pages, 10,000 pageviews a month, 50 form entries a month, and 1 custom domain.
Free plan: no credit card, 10 pages, 50 form entries a month.
ChatGPT gave you a landing page. It opens fine on your computer, but the address bar starts with file:///C:/Users/…, and the link you sent a friend doesn't open for them. That address points to a file on your own disk. This guide puts the same page on a public URL with Convika's Free plan, makes its form keep the entries people send, and shows you who visited.
What ChatGPT can do with the page, by plan
In a regular chat, on every plan, ChatGPT puts code in a code block. According to OpenAI's help center, you can copy the code, switch between Code and Preview to see an HTML page rendered, and share a read-only link to a supported code block when sharing is available. ChatGPT can also hand you the page as a downloadable .html file if you ask for one.
With ChatGPT Sites, on Plus, Pro, and workspace plans, ChatGPT can host a page too. OpenAI's Sites guide describes a public beta that builds a Site in Work, publishes it to a ChatGPT URL that anyone on the internet can open, and connects a custom domain where that's available. Usage is included up to plan limits during the beta, and a high-usage Site can stop being publicly available at the limit. Sites isn't available on Free or Go. If you pay for Plus or Pro and are happy for ChatGPT to build the page as a Site, that's a reasonable route.
This guide covers the other cases: you use ChatGPT Free or Go, you already have the .html file, or you want the page, its form entries, and its visitor stats in one place on a free plan.
| What a live page needs | ChatGPT chat on its own | The same page on Convika |
|---|---|---|
| A URL anyone can open | A read-only share link on chatgpt.com, when sharing is available | Yes, such as yourpage.convika.com |
| Your own domain | No | 1 subdomain on Free, such as www.yourbrand.com |
| A form that keeps entries | No place to store them | Yes, 50 a month on Free, with CSV export |
| Visitor stats | No | Visits, sources, devices, countries, and button clicks |
| Cost | Included in your ChatGPT plan | Free, or Pro at $12 a month |
Put your ChatGPT page online in 6 steps
Get the HTML out of ChatGPT
If the page has a form, first ask ChatGPT: “Replace the form with <div data-convika-form></div>.” That marks the spot where Convika puts a working form later. Then, if ChatGPT gave you a file, download it; the name ends in .html. If the page is in a code block, switch to Code and copy all of it. In older chats the page may sit in Canvas instead; open the code view there and copy it the same way. If ChatGPT split the page into several files, such as index.html, styles.css, and script.js, ask: “Combine this into a single HTML file with the CSS and JavaScript inline.”
Create a free Convika account
Sign up at app.convika.com. The Free plan needs no credit card and covers 10 pages.
Upload the file
In the dashboard, click Upload an HTML file. On the Upload a file tab, drop your file or click Choose a file; it can be .html or .htm, up to 2 MB. If you copied the code instead, switch to Paste code and paste it. Before you upload, Convika lists any files the page loads from your computer, such as hero.png. Click Create my preview. Convika creates a new page, and uploading uses no AI credits.
Check the private preview
When you see “Your preview is ready,” click Open preview. The preview link is private and expires in 7 days. Nothing is public yet. Open it on your phone too, and check that images load, buttons go where they should, and the menu opens. If something is missing, see what can break below.
Make the form keep its entries
The form ChatGPT drew has nowhere to send what people type. On the page's dashboard screen, click Add a form to my page, pick the fields (email only; name and email; or name, email, and message), and adjust the button text. Convika puts a working form in the placeholder spot, or above your page's footer if there's no placeholder, as a new preview version. If you didn't use the placeholder, ChatGPT's old form is still on the page. Type “Remove the form ChatGPT made and keep the Convika form” into Improve with AI, which costs 1 AI credit on the default model, so visitors don't fill in a form that goes nowhere. Test entries sent from the preview are checked but not saved.
Publish and connect your domain
Click Publish. The page goes live at an address like yourpage.convika.com. To use your own domain, click Manage domains on the page's dashboard screen, then Add domain, and enter a hostname such as www.yourbrand.com. Then add the CNAME and TXT records Convika shows at the company where you bought the domain. The SSL certificate is issued for you. Automatic setup works with subdomains like www or go, not a bare yourbrand.com.
What you see after publishing
Open the page's analytics in the dashboard. You get visits and visitors, traffic sources and UTM tags, devices, countries, button clicks, and form submissions, for the last 7, 30, or 90 days. Entries appear under Forms, and you can export them as a CSV.
The Free plan counts up to 10,000 pageviews a month across all your pages. Past that, your page stays online, but stats stop for the rest of the month and a notice about the traffic limit appears at the bottom of the page.
What can break when you move the page
Scripts in your file run on every plan, including Free. Tailwind, Google Fonts, icon libraries, and stylesheets loaded from a CDN work too, as do embedded YouTube videos and maps, video and audio files from other https:// hosts, and images with full https:// links. These depend on your plan or don't work:
- Analytics and heatmap tools. Google Analytics, Clarity, Hotjar, Plausible, PostHog, and Mixpanel send data only on Pro and above. On Free their requests are blocked. Convika's own visit counts work on Free; to keep your own tool, use Pro.
- Images saved on your computer. A tag like
<img src="hero.png">points to a file that only exists on your disk, so the image shows as broken. The upload screen lists these files for you. Ask ChatGPT: “Use a full https:// link for every image, and use these links: …” - Scripts that load data from other websites. A page on Convika can only fetch data from its own address, apart from the analytics tools above on Pro. A script that pulls in a weather feed or a Google Sheet, or sends form data to another service with JavaScript, is blocked. Ask ChatGPT: “Put this data directly in the page instead of fetching it.” For forms, use Add a form to my page instead.
- Libraries that run code written in HTML attributes, such as Alpine.js (
x-data,@click). Ask ChatGPT: “Rewrite the Alpine.js parts in plain JavaScript.”
Other ways to put the file online
- Netlify Drop. Drop the file on app.netlify.com/drop and get a URL. Netlify stores form submissions for free once you select Enable form detection under Forms, add
data-netlify="true"to the form, and then drop the file again, because detection starts with the next deploy. When the Free plan's 300 monthly credits run out, every site on the account is paused. - Tiiny Host. Drag and drop with a free account. The free plan allows 1 project up to 3 MB and 5,000 visits a month, with a Tiiny Host banner, and stays online as long as you log in every 3 months.
- GitHub Pages. Free with a public repository, but GitHub's policy rules out running an online business on it.
The full comparison, with prices checked this month, is in Tiiny Host alternatives for a single HTML file.
Convika is the wrong fit for apps that need a login, a database, or many pages. It hosts landing pages.
Frequently asked questions
Can ChatGPT publish my page to a website by itself?
On some plans. ChatGPT Sites, in public beta for Plus, Pro, and workspace accounts, builds a Site in Work and publishes it to a ChatGPT URL, with a custom domain where available. It isn't available on Free or Go. In a regular chat, on any plan, ChatGPT can preview the page and share a read-only link to the code block, but not host it. To run the page as a website from there, upload the HTML to a host.
Why does my page open on my computer but not for anyone else?
The link starts with file:///, which points to a file on your own disk. Nobody else can reach it. Upload the file to a host, such as Convika, Netlify, or Tiiny Host, and share the URL it gives you.
Does the Free plan run the JavaScript in my file?
Yes. Scripts inside the HTML run on every plan, including scripts loaded from a CDN. What they can reach depends on your plan. Analytics and heatmap tools such as Google Analytics, Clarity, Hotjar, and Plausible send data only on Pro and above; on Free their requests are blocked. Other requests to other websites are blocked on any plan, and libraries such as Alpine.js that run code written in HTML attributes don't work.
How do I make the contact form send me the entries?
Click Add a form to my page on the page's dashboard screen. Convika creates the form, stores every entry, and lets you export them as a CSV. The Free plan stores 50 entries a month across all your forms; entries after that are refused until the next month. Pro has no cap.
Can I connect Convika to ChatGPT so it publishes for me?
Convika isn't in ChatGPT's plugin directory. Uploading the file works on every ChatGPT plan. If you use Claude, Claude Code, or Codex, those can save and publish pages to Convika directly. See how to publish a Claude artifact.
What does Convika add to my page?
A small script that counts visits and button clicks, a notice that asks visitors whether to allow optional analytics cookies, and, on the Free plan, a small “Powered by Convika” badge at the bottom. The rest of your HTML is served as you uploaded it.
What does it cost?
The Free plan needs no card: 10 pages, 10,000 pageviews a month, 50 form entries a month, and 1 custom domain, with the “Powered by Convika” badge. Pro costs $12 a month after a 14-day free trial: 50 pages, 100,000 pageviews a month, unlimited form entries and domains, and no badge.
Can I change the page after it's live?
Yes. Type the change into Improve with AI on the page's dashboard screen, which costs 1 AI credit on the default model; Free accounts start with 10. Each change is saved as a new version with its own preview, and nothing changes on the live page until you publish. If an edit goes wrong, roll back to an earlier version. Uploading a file always creates a new page with its own address, so use it for a new page, not a fix to a live one.
