How to share an HTML file from Claude so anyone can open it

Quick answer

A Claude chat Share link opens only for people who are signed in to Claude. When you email an .html file, an iPhone opens it in a file preview that runs no scripts. If you send your work to someone without a Claude account, upload the file and send them a link instead. The Convika upload box gives you a private link in seconds with no signup, showing a static view with scripts turned off for 3 minutes. Create a free account to keep the page, let its scripts run, and count visits.

Share your HTML file free

Free plan: no credit card, 1 published page, 50 form entries a month.

On this page

Claude just built your report, slide deck, or one-page site, and you want to send it to a client, teammate, or friend who does not use Claude. This guide shows what each way of sending looks like on their screen. You will learn how to get the HTML file out of Claude on your computer, phone, or Claude Code. Then you will see how to turn that file into a private link any browser opens.

Why the other person can't open what you send

  • A Share link needs a Claude account. Anthropic's sharing guide, updated September 23, 2026, states, “People without one can't open a shared artifact, even with the link,”. Sharing with Anyone with the link requires a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan. It is unavailable on the Free plan. On Team and Enterprise plans, you can share only once an Owner turns on External sharing or allows that specific artifact. Inviting people by email is a beta feature on the same paid plans, and the recipient also needs a Claude account registered to that address.
  • Older published artifacts skip the sign-in. Artifacts created in a chat before September 16, 2026 can still be published on Free, Pro, and Max plans. Anyone with that link opens the page without an account. This is the only exception the sharing guide gives. For Claude Code public links, Anthropic's pages disagree. Claude Code's docs state that a page published from Claude Code can be shared with “no claude.ai sign-in required,” on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner must turn public sharing on first. Before you send a link, open it in a private browser window to confirm it loads without signing in.
  • On an iPhone, a sent file opens without its scripts. When you send an .html file by email or chat, tapping it on an iPhone opens a file preview. In our test on October 6, 2026 with the Files preview in Apple's iPhone simulator on iOS 26.3, the screen showed CSS written into the page and images built into its code. It ran no JavaScript. It loaded no Tailwind from its CDN, no Google Fonts, and no images from other websites. As a result, tabs and slide controls do not respond. Script-drawn charts do not appear. A page that relies on a Tailwind CDN renders unstyled. On Android, the result depends on the app you use. HTML Viewer ran no scripts in our test, whereas a browser such as Chrome may run them.

A link to a hosted copy gets past the sign-in screen. Whether your page actually works depends on the host running its scripts, as detailed in the comparison table below.

Get the HTML out of Claude

In a chat on the web or desktop

  • Artifacts made before September 16, 2026. Anthropic's artifact guide says to “use the controls at the top of the artifact panel to view the code, copy the content, or download it.” Downloading gives you the file.
  • Anything newer. Ask in the same chat: “Give me this page as one HTML file, with the CSS and JavaScript inline.” If Claude built a React component, add: “Convert it to plain HTML with no build step.” Copy the code from the reply, or download the file if Claude attaches one.

In the iPhone or Android app

The phone apps list your artifacts in the Artifacts tab. Anthropic's sharing guide notes that “You can't change sharing settings in Claude for iOS or Claude for Android.” When Claude attaches a file, tap Download. Per the file creation guide, it opens “in either the system preview or a separate app.” On an iPhone, the system preview is Quick Look, which Files uses too. In the test we ran above, it ran no scripts.

A shorter route from a phone is simple. Open the same chat at claude.ai or in Claude Desktop, and get the file there before uploading. The upload box at the top of this page also works in a phone's browser. Paste the code, or pick the file from the phone's files.

From Claude Code

Claude Code writes the page to a file before publishing anything. Its docs state that unless you name a location, “Claude writes the page to an HTML or Markdown file in a temporary directory outside your project.” For a copy to send, ask: “Save that page as report.html in this folder.” Reports and pull-request walkthroughs come out this way. Decks built as a plain HTML page work the same way.

On Pro or Max, Claude Code's docs say the page's claude.ai link can be shared publicly, with no sign-in for whoever opens it. When someone opens it without signing in, the page displays the label “Content is user-generated and unverified” instead of your name. Sessions without artifacts, like those signed in with an API key, cannot publish a link. Ask for the file the same way.

In Anthropic's post on using HTML with Claude Code, Thariq Shihipar writes: “As long as you upload the HTML file, you can share the link easily” (Claude blog, May 20, 2026). The upload box at the top of this page does that, without an account.

1. Upload the file or paste the code

Drop your file on the box, or switch to Paste code and paste it in. The box accepts .html or .htm files up to 2 MB. Claude Code builds images directly into the page's code, and those images count toward the 2 MB limit. If your page loads images from your computer like hero.png, the box lists them. Replace each one with a full https:// link, because a path like that points to your own disk. Click Get my preview link. You get 10 previews a day per network this way.

2. Check the preview

When “Your preview is ready” appears, click Open my preview. Search engines are told not to index the preview, and it is not listed anywhere. You see a static view: scripts, forms, video, and embeds such as maps are turned off. A top bar tells the recipient that the page was uploaded to Convika's free tool, with scripts and forms off. Tailwind from its CDN and Google Fonts still style the page. A report, a one-page design, or a document looks right. Slides that need a click to advance do not move until you keep the page in the next section.

Send the published page's address, not the preview link. The preview link works 3 minutes. It is for checking the page yourself, not for sending. Keep the page and publish it in the next section. Then copy the published address into your email, WhatsApp, or Slack message. A published page keeps its address until you unpublish it.

Keep your shared page out of Google and Bing

In July 2026, The Decoder and GovInfoSecurity reported that chats and artifacts shared with Claude's "share with link" were showing up in Google and Bing search results. According to The Decoder, those shared pages apparently lacked a noindex tag, which is the mark that tells search engines to leave a page out of their results. Anthropic said shared links cannot be found unless the people who have them share them publicly themselves.

On Convika, the confirmation screen offers Public and Private link when you publish. Public is free, and the page may show up in search results and in Convika's gallery. With Private link (Pro or pass), Convika adds the noindex tag to tell search engines to keep your page out of their results and leaves the page out of the sitemap. People with your link open it right away without a password or an account, and anyone they forward the link to can open it too.

If you want your page to appear in search engines, choose Public. You can change this setting any time in Page settings under Who can open this page (a private link needs Pro or the pass). If you only want specific people to open the page, pick Only people with the password and set a password, which comes with Pro ($12/month).

Keep your page online and see whether anyone opened it

The upload preview lets you check the file yourself. To send the page to someone else or turn on its scripts, click Keep this page — free, no card above the preview link and sign up. The file moves straight into your Free account exactly as you uploaded it.

  • Its scripts run. Your dashboard gives the page a new preview link where JavaScript runs. Slides advance and charts draw. The old link stops working. The new link works for 3 minutes, enough to check the deck yourself or show it on a call, and Open preview gives you a fresh one each time. For a draft that someone opens later, publish it as the next point explains.
  • It can stay out of Google. Click Publish page. Under Who can open this page?, choose Public and click Next. The first time you publish, Convika shows Publish free, and under it Publish without the Convika bar, which opens an order for Pro monthly (1 day free with a card, then $12 a month). To publish on Free, click Publish free. The page goes live at an address like yourpage.convika.page, where the address stays the same until you click Unpublish. Free includes 10,000 page views a month across all your pages. The free choice is Public, which search engines may list and which may appear in Convika's gallery. Choose Private link (Pro or pass) and anyone who has the link can open the page without an account or password, including anyone they forward it to, while Convika tells search engines to keep it out of their results and leaves it out of the sitemap. You can switch this anytime in Page settings under Who can open this page (a private link needs Pro or the pass). If you also want a password, pick Only people with the password in the publish dialog and order Pro monthly (1 day free with a card, then $12 a month), or the 1-year pass ($29, paid once, no renewal) from the link under the order's button, or, on Pro, set one under Page password in Page settings. See How to password protect an HTML page for what visitors see.
  • You see whether anyone opened it. Convika counts visits to your published page. It shows referring sites, devices, and countries from the last 90 days on Free. You see how many people opened the page, not who opened it. Read the comparison with Google Analytics and Cloudflare Web Analytics in How to see who visits your page.
  • Your own domain and a form are included. Free connects 1 subdomain, such as www.yourbrand.com. If a form Claude drew does not send entries to you, add a form from your dashboard. Free shows 50 entries a month and keeps the rest for Pro. See both walked through in How to publish a Claude artifact as a website.
  • Changes go in as new versions. Type your edit into Edit with AI on the page's dashboard screen. Each update uses 1 AI credit on the default model, and Free accounts start with 10. You can also connect Convika to Claude, Claude Code, or another MCP client. Ask Claude to save a new version and publish it directly from your chat. Check the setup guide: Letting Claude publish and edit the page.

The Free plan publishes 1 page and adds a small Convika bar at the bottom. Pro costs $12 a month and removes it.

Opening the file on a phone without a host

You might already have the file in an email, or you want to test it on your own phone before you send it to someone else.

  • iPhone. Save the file to Files and tap it. The preview shows the text, any CSS written into the page, and images built into its code. In our test, it ran no JavaScript. It blocked fonts and images from other websites. Nothing you tap or swipe responds, and linked images appear broken.
  • Android. Tap the file in Files and choose an app to open it. What you see depends on the app you pick. On Android 16, the choices were Chrome and HTML Viewer. HTML Viewer works just like the iPhone preview: no scripts, and no outside fonts or images. A browser such as Chrome may run the scripts.
  • Any phone, with the page working. Open the file from a link to a host that runs scripts, such as a published Convika page.

These limits apply to files from any tool, not just Claude. For attachments, Google Drive, and how hosts compare, read how to share an HTML file as a link.

Pick by who opens it and for how long. For a teammate with Claude, the Share link is enough. For a Claude Code report on Pro or Max, Claude Code's docs say its public link opens for anyone. Check it in a private window before sending. Use the no-signup preview for a quick check on a phone, or for someone who opens it right away. It needs no account and works 3 minutes. Choose Convika Free for slides or anything interactive. Use it to keep a page with visit counts and your own domain.

What to check before you upload

  • Features that run on Claude. Some pages ask Claude questions or read connected apps. That work runs on Anthropic's infrastructure. Those parts stop working anywhere else. Other pages save data in Claude's storage: the data stays in Claude, and the storage calls (window.storage) work on a Convika page but not on most other hosts.
  • Pages split into several files. Convika hosts 1 HTML file per page. Ask Claude to put the CSS and JavaScript inline.
  • Requests to other websites. Your Convika page fetches only from its own address. A script loading data from another site gets nothing back.
  • Claude Design pages. Upload the file from Export as standalone HTML as is. Convika turns it into a plain page. Scripts build a Claude Design page. The no-signup preview shows a note where the design will be, until you keep the page. Walkthrough: How to publish a Claude Design website.

Frequently asked questions

How do I share an HTML file from Claude?

First get the HTML file out of Claude, upload it, and send the link. You can download an older artifact, ask Claude for a single HTML file, or have Claude Code save the file to a folder. Dropping the file into Convika's upload box creates a private preview link without signing up. That link works 3 minutes. It gives a static view with scripts turned off. Sign up for a free account to keep the page and turn scripts on, or publish the page at its own address.

How do I open a Claude HTML file on my iPhone?

Save the file to the Files app on your phone and tap it to open the preview. The preview displays the text and any CSS written directly into the file. In our test on iOS 26.3, the preview ran no JavaScript and blocked external files like Tailwind CDN, Google Fonts, and images from other websites. Buttons, tabs, and slide controls did nothing. To see the page working, open a link in Safari to a host that runs scripts, such as a published Convika page.

Can someone without Claude open my artifact?

Usually not, because Anthropic's sharing guide states that everyone needs a Claude account to open a shared artifact link. The only exception in the guide is for artifacts created in a chat before September 16, 2026, which remain publishable. Documentation for Claude Code also notes that its public links open without a sign-in. For any other artifact, download or copy the HTML and host the file so the link opens in any browser. Students under 18 cannot create Claude accounts, so read how to share a Claude artifact with students if you teach a class.

Can I share HTML slides Claude made?

Yes, as long as you use a host that runs scripts. Slide decks that use JavaScript to switch between slides become unresponsive in an iPhone file preview and in Convika's no-signup preview. If you keep the page with a free Convika account, both the dashboard's preview and the published link run your deck's scripts. The preview link works for 3 minutes, so send the published link. Decks made with the Claude Slides template export to PowerPoint or PDF instead. Read How to share an HTML slide deck as a link to learn how to take a deck from Claude, Claude Code, or Gemini and present it from a browser link.

Can I see whether they opened it?

You cannot track opens with an email attachment, Convika's no-signup preview, or shared Claude links, which document no view tracking. A published Convika page records visits and shows referring sites, devices, and countries. The Free plan keeps this data for 90 days. You see how many people opened your page, but not their individual identities.

Will the page show up on Google?

A no-signup preview does not appear on Google, because search engines receive instructions not to index it. When you publish, choose Private link (Pro or pass) to keep the page out of search results, or the free Public to let search engines list it; a Public page may also appear in Convika's gallery. You can switch a page to Public anytime under Who can open this page in Page settings. The dashboard's preview link stays unindexed too, but it works for 3 minutes: it is for checking a draft yourself, not for sending. To share a draft that isn't ready for the public, publish it as a Private link (Pro or pass).
