How to publish an HTML page from ChatGPT as a live website, free

Quick answer

Upload the HTML file ChatGPT made or paste its code into Convika, check a private preview, and publish to get a live URL anyone can open with no coding. Any ChatGPT plan works, Free and Go included. ChatGPT Sites can also host a page, but only on Plus, Pro, and workspace plans, excluding Free and Go. Convika's Free plan gives you 1 published page, 10,000 pageviews a month, 50 form entries a month, and 1 custom subdomain with no credit card. The Free plan also includes a form that keeps entries people send, and it shows how many visited and where they came from.

Publish your HTML page free

Free plan: no credit card, 1 published page, 50 form entries a month.

On this page

ChatGPT gave you a landing page as a file to download or code to copy from the chat. It opens fine on your computer, but the address bar starts with file:///C:/Users/…. A link sent to a friend does not open for them. That address is a file on your own disk. This guide puts that same page on a public URL with Convika's Free plan. Download the file or paste the code, check a private preview, and publish. Then the page's form keeps entries, and you see who visited.

What ChatGPT can do with the page, by plan

In a regular chat, on every plan, ChatGPT puts code in a code block. Per OpenAI's help center, depending on the code block and the actions available to you, you copy the code or switch between Code and Preview. Preview shows an HTML page inside ChatGPT. ChatGPT also gives you the page as a downloadable .html file if you ask.

With ChatGPT Sites, on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu, ChatGPT hosts the page too. Per OpenAI's Sites docs, Sites is in public beta. You ask ChatGPT in Work, or Codex, to build a Site, then publish to a ChatGPT-hosted address. A Site can store data in a database (D1) and files in storage (R2). It counts unique visitors and pageviews without an analytics script. Where custom domains are available, you connect an apex domain or a subdomain you already own. Custom domains are not in Enterprise workspaces at launch. Plan-specific usage limits apply during the beta, and hitting one can stop a high-usage Site from staying public. Sites is not on Free or Go. If you pay for Plus or Pro and feel happy for ChatGPT to build and run the page as a Site, that is a reasonable route. Read about plans, limits, and Sites compared against 5 hosts on domains, forms, stats, and cost in Is ChatGPT Sites free?.

This guide covers the other cases. You use ChatGPT Free or Go. You already have the .html file or the code. You want the page and its form entries in one dashboard on a free plan, along with its traffic sources.

If your page is already hosted and only the form is broken, see Formspree, Netlify Forms, and Google Forms compared in how to make the form on your AI-made page work. For a waitlist page, use a prompt that leaves a spot for the signup form from How to make a waitlist page with ChatGPT.

Put the page online without that link. Ask ChatGPT, word for word: “Show the whole page as HTML in one code block.” Copy the code. Switch the upload box at the top of this page to Paste code, paste the code, and click Get my preview link. Anyone with the preview link can open the page for 3 minutes. Scripts and forms stay off. The 6 steps below publish it at a public URL, where its scripts run.

Why the link did not open depends on which link you have. This explanation applies to an HTML page. It does not apply to a PDF, a spreadsheet, or a Canva or Notion link.

  • A download link in the chat. OpenAI's troubleshooting page lists “Download failed” and “File Not Found” as the errors when you “click on file links generated by ChatGPT,” and says “files generated by ChatGPT expire quickly.” Ask ChatGPT to create the file again, and download it right away. The same page also instructs you to turn off a VPN or proxy.
  • An address that starts with file:///. This address points to the downloaded file on your own disk, so it opens only on your device.
  • A share link, which starts with https://chatgpt.com/share/. This link lets people view the conversation. Per OpenAI's help on sharing, a link made in a Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace opens “only by eligible members of the same workspace,” and a new link “can take a short time to become available.”
  • An address on example.com. That domain is kept for examples in documentation. No page of yours is there.

To give the page its own address, publish it. Publish it as a ChatGPT Site on Plus, Pro, or a workspace plan (covered above), or upload the HTML to a host, as the steps below do on Convika's Free plan.

Publish your ChatGPT page in 6 steps

Get the HTML out of ChatGPT

If your page has a form, first ask ChatGPT, word for word: “Replace the form with <div data-convika-form></div>.” This marks where Convika puts a working form later. When ChatGPT gives you a file, download it. The name ends in .html. If the page is in a code block, switch to Code and copy all of it. In older chats, the page appears in Canvas. Open its code view and copy the code the same way. Read Where ChatGPT canvas went to see what OpenAI changed on May 28, 2026. If the page is split into several files like index.html, styles.css, and script.js, ask: “Combine this into a single HTML file with the CSS and JavaScript inline.” If you make the edits yourself, find each one in how to share an HTML file from VS Code.

Create a free Convika account

Sign up at app.convika.com. The Free plan requires no credit card and includes 1 published page.

Upload the file or paste the code

Go to your dashboard and select Upload an HTML file. On the Upload a file tab, drop the file or click Choose a file. Convika accepts .html or .htm files up to 2 MB. If you copied the code, open Paste code and paste it there. Before uploading, Convika lists any files the page loads from your computer, such as hero.png. Click Create my preview. Convika makes a new page, and uploading uses no AI credits.

Check the private preview

When you see “Your preview is ready,” click Open preview. You get a private link that works for 3 minutes, and nothing is public yet. Open it on your phone too, and click Open preview again if it has stopped working. Confirm that images load, buttons go where they should, and the menu opens. If something is missing, check what can break below.

Make the form keep its entries

The form ChatGPT drew has nowhere to send what people type. Go to the page's dashboard screen and select Add a form to my page. Pick your fields: email only; name and email; or name, email, and message. Adjust the button text. Convika puts a working form in the placeholder spot, or above the footer if there is none, as a new preview version. Without a placeholder, ChatGPT's old form remains. Type “Remove the form ChatGPT made and keep the Convika form” into Edit with AI. This step costs 1 AI credit on the default model and prevents visitors from filling in a dead form. Convika checks test entries from the preview, but does not save them.

Publish and connect your domain

Click Publish page. Under Who can open this page?, choose Public and click Next. The first time you publish, Convika shows Publish free, and under it Publish without the Convika bar, which opens an order for Pro monthly (1 day free with a card, then $12 a month). To publish on Free, click Publish free. The page goes live at an address like yourpage.convika.page. To use your own domain, open Manage domains on the page's dashboard screen, select Add domain, and enter a hostname such as www.yourbrand.com. Log in at the company where you bought the domain and add the CNAME and TXT records Convika shows. Convika issues an SSL certificate for you. This automatic setup works for subdomains like www or go. It does not set up a bare yourbrand.com.

What you see after publishing

Your dashboard displays analytics for the page across the last 7, 30, or 90 days. You see visits, visitors, referring sites, devices, countries, button clicks, and form submissions. Under Campaigns (UTM), you see visitors, pageviews, form submissions, and button clicks split by UTM source, medium, and campaign. If you use Claude, Claude Code, or Codex with Convika, ask it for the same split by referring site. You find new entries under Forms, and you can run a CSV export.

The Free plan includes 10,000 pageviews a month across all your pages. Once a month's pageviews reach that number, editing and analytics pause, and 7 days later your pages stop until the month ends or you upgrade. In a workspace created before October 23, 2026 (Japan time), this starts on November 1, 2026.

What can break when you move the page

Scripts in your file run on every plan, Free included. Stylesheets from a CDN load properly. Tailwind, Google Fonts, and icon libraries work. Buttons keep their onclick handlers. Embedded YouTube videos and maps display on the screen. Video and audio files from other https:// hosts work, as do images with full https:// links. The list below covers what depends on your plan or does not work.

  • Analytics and heatmap tools. Google Analytics, Cloudflare Web Analytics, Clarity, Hotjar, Plausible, PostHog, and Mixpanel send data only on Pro and above. The Free plan blocks them. Convika's own visit counts work on Free. Switch to Pro to keep your own tool.
  • Images saved on your computer. A tag like <img src="hero.png"> points to a file only on your disk, so the browser shows a broken image. The upload screen lists the files that tags like this point to, but not the ones a script loads. Ask ChatGPT: “Use a full https:// link for every image, and use these links: …”
  • Scripts that load data from other websites. A script's fetch and XHR requests on a Convika page reach only the page's own address, except, on Pro, the analytics tools above and the hosts you list for your own ad network. A script pulling a weather feed gets blocked, and so does one sending form data to another service with JavaScript. A script reading a Google Sheet fails on Free; Google's addresses are among the analytics hosts Pro and the 1-year pass allow, so it may work there and then stop once the page is back on Free. Ask ChatGPT: “Put this data directly in the page instead of fetching it.” For forms, use Add a form to my page instead.
  • Libraries that run code written in HTML attributes This includes Alpine.js and its x-data or @click attributes. Ask ChatGPT: “Rewrite the Alpine.js parts in plain JavaScript.”

Convika hosts landing pages. Apps needing a login or a database require a different kind of host. The same applies to sites with many pages.

Use your own domain without paying for hosting

You still pay a registrar for the domain. Hosting is free on the options below.

  • Convika Free connects 1 subdomain, such as www.yourbrand.com or go.yourbrand.com. Add the CNAME and TXT records Convika shows. An SSL certificate is issued for you. A bare yourbrand.com is not set up automatically, so forward it to www at your DNS provider.
  • GitHub Pages works with any domain, including a bare yourbrand.com. It is free with a public repository. GitHub's usage limits rule out an online business, a store, or SaaS.
  • ChatGPT Sites connects an apex domain or a subdomain you own, “where custom domains are available,” on paid plans with Sites. Enterprise workspaces have no custom domains at launch. Sites is not on Free or Go.
  • Netlify and Cloudflare Pages provide custom domains on their free plans too. Cloudflare has no built-in form.

Frequently asked questions

How can I publish a landing page HTML file from ChatGPT online for free with a real URL?

Upload the HTML file ChatGPT created or paste its code into a host to receive a live web address. Check your private preview, click publish, and anyone can open your page without you writing code. Convika Free includes a form that keeps entries, along with counts of how many people visited and where they came from. To see how Convika compares with Netlify Drop, Tiiny Host, GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages, and ChatGPT Sites, read Free ways to publish an HTML file from ChatGPT.

What's the easiest way to turn HTML code from ChatGPT into a live website without coding?

Paste the code directly into a host that accepts raw HTML markup. On Convika, select Upload an HTML file, click Paste code, paste your code, and click Create my preview. Review the screen and click Publish. You do not need to save a file, run a command line, or use Git. Netlify Drop is about as fast if you save an .html file first, drop it onto the site, sign in, and select Make public if your project starts private. Teams created on or after July 28, 2026 start projects as private.

Can I put a page ChatGPT made on my own domain for free?

Yes, hosting your page can cost nothing, though you still buy the domain from a registrar. Convika Free lets you connect 1 subdomain such as www.yourbrand.com through a CNAME and a TXT record. GitHub Pages also supports a bare domain, but its terms do not allow running a business. ChatGPT Sites lets Plus and Pro subscribers connect a domain where custom domains are available.

Is there a free way to host a single HTML file?

Yes, multiple hosting services run a single HTML file for free. Netlify Drop, Cloudflare Pages, GitHub Pages, Tiiny Host, and Convika all host single files at zero cost. Tiiny Host restricts free accounts to 1 project at a time. GitHub Pages requires a public repository. Netlify pauses your projects when your 300 monthly credits run out. Convika Free includes 1 published page, visitor stats, and a form that keeps entries.

Can ChatGPT publish my page to a website by itself?

ChatGPT publishes pages directly only if you subscribe to a paid plan. A public beta called ChatGPT Sites is available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans. It creates a Site in Work or Codex, then publishes to a ChatGPT-hosted address or a custom domain where available. Free and Go plans do not include this feature. In regular chat, clicking Preview on a supported code block displays the page only inside ChatGPT, while a share link opens the text of the conversation. To turn your chat code into a live website, upload the HTML to a host.

OpenAI removed the option that indexed shared ChatGPT links. During 2025, a “Make this chat discoverable” box on the share screen allowed chats into search engines. On July 31, 2025, OpenAI chief information security officer Dane Stuckey stated that the feature “introduced too many opportunities for folks to accidentally share things they didn't intend to, so we're removing the option,” as reported by Engadget. When we checked on October 11, 2026, a ChatGPT share address carried a noindex tag instructing search engines not to list it. Anyone with your share link can still read the chat, so treat it as public. When you publish an HTML file on Convika, search engines ignore the private preview, and your live page appears in your sitemap.

Why does my page open on my computer but not for anyone else?

Your link starts with file:///, which points to a file stored on your own hard drive. Nobody else can access your local disk across the internet. Upload the HTML file to a host like Convika, Netlify, or Tiiny Host, and share the address that the host provides. If you want to send the file directly to another device, see How to share an HTML file as a link.

The link ChatGPT gave you is not a live website address. Download links from ChatGPT expire quickly, addresses beginning with file:/// work only on your personal machine, and addresses using example.com serve solely as placeholders, as each is covered above. To let others view your page, upload your HTML to a hosting platform and send them that URL.

The file behind the download link may have expired before you downloaded it. According to OpenAI's help, “files generated by ChatGPT expire quickly,” and using a recently generated file is 1 of 4 checks when downloads fail. Prompt ChatGPT to generate the file again, and download it right away. You can also skip the file download completely: ask ChatGPT for the code, copy it, and paste it into the upload box at the top of this page.

The share link might come from a restricted workspace or need a moment to process. According to OpenAI's help, a link created in a Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace opens only for members of that workspace, and a new link “can take a short time to become available.” Links from personal accounts open for anyone, but they display your chat history rather than a standalone website. To present your page as a website, upload the HTML to a host and distribute the site URL.

Does the Free plan run the JavaScript in my file?

Yes, scripts inside your HTML and CDN scripts run on every Convika plan. What your code can connect to depends on your tier. Analytics and heatmap scripts such as Google Analytics, Clarity, Hotjar, and Plausible collect data on Pro and higher plans, but Convika Free blocks them. On Free, Convika blocks a script's fetch and XHR requests to every other website. Pro and the 1-year pass add the analytics hosts Convika supports, Google's among them, and the hosts you list for your own ad network, so a script tied to a Google Sheet that works there stops once the page is back on Free. Libraries like Alpine.js that run code directly inside HTML attributes do not work. Class quizzes and review games run through this script engine; you can find prompts and distribution steps in how to share an AI-made quiz or game with students.

How do I make the contact form send me the entries?

Click Add a form to my page on your page dashboard screen to start collecting submissions. Convika saves your page with the new form as a preview version. Check the preview and click publish to update your live site. Convika stores every entry from then on and lets you export the data to a CSV file. Free plans display 50 entries a month across your forms. Submissions past that limit stay in your account and become visible when you upgrade to Pro.

Can I connect Convika to ChatGPT so it publishes for me?

No, Convika is not listed in the ChatGPT plugin directory. You upload the file or paste code manually on any ChatGPT plan. If you build pages with Claude, Claude Code, or Codex, those tools can deploy directly to Convika through how to publish a Claude artifact.

What does Convika add to my page?

Convika adds a lightweight script to track visits and button clicks. It places a notice on the page asking visitors whether to permit optional analytics cookies. Free pages also carry a small Convika bar at the bottom of the screen. Convika serves the rest of your HTML exactly as you provided it.

What does it cost?

Convika Free costs nothing and requires no credit card. The Free plan includes 1 published page, 10,000 pageviews a month, 50 form entries a month shown (entries past that are kept and show on Pro), 1 custom domain, and the Convika bar. Pro costs $12 a month: 50 pages and 100,000 pageviews a month included, with views past that billed at $0.10 per 10,000, so the pages never stop. Pro also shows every form entry, has no limit on domains, and has no Convika bar.

Can I change the page after it's live?

Yes, you can edit your page after publishing it. Enter your update into Edit with AI on the page dashboard screen. Each update uses 1 AI credit with the default model, and Free accounts start with 10 credits. Convika creates a new version with its own preview for every change, leaving the live site untouched until you publish again. If an edit fails to look right, roll back to an earlier version. If you fixed the file in ChatGPT, upload it under Update from an HTML file on the page's screen: it becomes the next version at the same address. Upload an HTML file in the dashboard makes a new page with a new address, so don't use it for a fix.
